Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument by Selene Mathew

Visit the Sunset Crater Volcano National Monument. Here is a place to photograph dramatic geological formations made by the lava flows from a time when the volcano was active. The eruptions of this mountain completely changed the lives of the peoples in this area as well as the land they knew and loved. From devastation comes new life; this stark reality hits home no better than at the Sunset Crater. You will see trees and flowers once again flourishing in between the vast chunks of hardened lava stone.

Head east from Flagstaff and swing north, you can’t miss it. Or is it west?

It’s a demanding hike to admire from above (lots of loose rock), but the scenery’s gorgeous.
