Why I recommend this place to visitors
It is absolutley beautiful there! It is small and quiet (I went in September)place. There is so much to see & do, the downtown area almost reminds me of New Orleans. I saw seals on the cruises and I found it to be very affordable. Beautiful place, I would love to go back!

A review of this place: The cutest little town ever!
This town is great! Right on the water and very beautiful! We went on a whale watch, which I highly recommend, it was the best experience ever! Good food, great scenery, and cute little shops that aren’t nearly as touristy as other places. We ate at the Fish House Grill, which was awesome! We sat right on the deck and watched the water while eating and it was very reasonably priced! Service was nothing to write home about and the scallops were pretty gross, but the lobster was the best I’ve ever had and the shrimp was delicious!

Bar Harbor provides most meals and beds to travelers coming to the island, as it has since the grand resort era of the late 19th century. Wealthy rusticators discovered the region then; later, sprawling hotels and boardinghouses cluttered the shores and hillsides as the newly affluent middle class flocked here by steamboat and rail from Eastern Seaboard cities. At its zenith near the turn of the 20th century, Bar Harbor had rooms enough to accommodate 5,000 visitors. The tourist business continued to grow throughout the early 1900s, then all but collapsed as the Depression and the growing popularity of car travel doomed the era of steamship travel and the extended vacation. Bar Harbor was dealt a further blow in 1947, when a fire leveled many opulent cottages and much of the rest of the town. In all, some 17,000 acres of the island were burned, though downtown Bar Harbor and many in-town mansions along the oceanfront were spared.
