Daegu aka: 대구,Daegu, Taegu

Deagu was a great place to live in 1986 and then in 1987.
I am sure it has changed greatly. Soowan River.
I was able to see the elections of 1986 in this area.
I love going to a tea shop. I forgot the name.

I did a three-week military tour here back in 2003. I learned a lot, from visiting a nearby rice festival in another city, to doing some shopping and eating and visiting the huge outdoor marketplace. Someone else in our group ate the crunchy bug from the basket though, thankfully.

My oldest daughter was born in Daegu and I really would love to see the city with her. She’s 16 now and not very interested in her heritage, but perhaps someday she will.

But still an interesting place to visit. The market was nice—not insanely crowded like in Seoul, so my mom and I could actually look around without worrying. The surrounding countryside was really beautiful when we were there in October a few years back.

I was there over 20 years ago, and already it had fallen to capitalism i.e. “development”. There are still beautful places to see and hiking is never more than 3 miles away from any point on this peninsula.
