Fort McMurray

I live here. Have for the past 7 years. It is hands down the armpit of the universe. Yah…you can buy a trailer for $320,000 if you are lucky. But that is just for the trailer, that doesn’t include the cost of the postage stamp sized piece of property it sits on. You get to buy that separately. We pay $4250.00 for a tiny little house that has no grass, so when it rains the back yard is one big mud puddle, and the basement bedroom is so cold it is unfit to live in it. People ask why don’t we buy. Good question. If the basic housing prices were sitting over $600,000 that would be great. The people are rude, there is no such thing as customer service, the place is littered with homeless people and garbage, like I mean tons of garbage. You can’t go walking through the pathetic mall without passing every second teenager pushing a baby carriage. The teenage boys dress like they are some kind of Eminem wanna be, and the girls look like something out of a Jay Z video. The women cheat on their men when they are on night shift, and the men cheat on their women when they “go sledding with the boys”. All this only tells me one thing. Most of the population here is Newfie. If they treat McMurray like this, than Newfoundland must suck. So why don’t I just pack up and move you ask! I am counting down the days now when my son graduates from high school and I can move back to reality. Hopefully somewhere where the city actually builds a dog park that has four sides.

i have to say “worth visiting” because you really have to see it to believe it. And (overlooking the massive oilsands industrial operations) canada’s largest national park is right there, and the boreal forest is pretty darned cool all on it’s own….

Hello everyone, iv read all the entries youv said about this place and im extremely saddened by it, my reason for wanting to live here is not for the beauty of it, the jobs in it, or even the people in it.

I have a girlfriend who lived there or now does live there, she hates it and always has, she says its full of drug addicts, the people suck as you’v also commented, i mean come on all iv heard is that the place sucks and the people who said it was a nice place wrote about a one or two sentence entry.

I myself live on the gold coast, australia, nice play to live? of course, wonderful beaches, the people are friendly, i have great friends, clean streets, good health care etc. But my girlfriend means so much to me, and having her live there is upsetting, the only way im going to be able to see her is if i move there, that it why i wanted to check up on a few entries.

Do you think it would be worth moving to live with my girlfriend? Sure i wouldnt like to live in a bad place like you say it is if i didnt have to.

Please so anybody who lives here tell me more about it and if its worth moving to live with my girlfriend

ok… Fort McMurray is kinda gross, and the people always are too busy to smile or thank you or help you at a department store (i’m talking about the employees there)
if you have to go there, or plan to anyways… you’ll notice the highway (63) is so busy, and everybody is always trying to leave the place.
By the plants (Syncrude and Suncor) there are a couple of wildlife places: one being the buffalo (which are constantly dying and getting sick with the fumes) and then the wildlife one (where they all HAVE died since the pr can’t force THOSE animals to stay there.)
You wanna see buffalo? go to a zoo. They’re treated better (believe it or not)
