I recommend Dover Pottery. It’s off the main road, and you take an unpaved one-lane path through the woods. You emerge into this meadow with a farmhouse and workshop in the middle of it. Lots of cute, mangy dogs walking around. “Cobalt Milly” has a nice workshop. She specializes in a technique that creates neat crystalline-line formations on the exterior of her pottery. Worth a look.
Each workshop has its own style. I went to several and liked Dover the best. There are lots of them though, so stop by the museum first and grab a free map.
The town is in the middle of nowhere, but alot artsier than the surrounding, more economically depressed area. The NC Zoo is nearby. Seagrove Orchids seems worth checking into as well, if you like botany.
