SO many memories

this place brings back a bunch of good memories. I went here like twice a week a few summers ago and got an LP each time (was working on my collection, which I have about 500 now). I also remember staring at peoples ears and running to the glass cases to check out there gauges and tapers, which ultimately added to my decision to start so myself (im at a 2g now, just started a month ago tho). And I remember I got my 5th belt buckle here, of the Virgin Marry. The ramp in the back is fun as hell too. Staff is sick, and the foreign film/indie/horror selection is nice too. Well I hope this inspires some of u townies to check it out, if u already haven’t.

Ohh yeah, the story :D almost forgot. Sometimes ill be coming home from class in the morning and ill just take a stroll down Newberry street to check out some of my favorite stores. Anyway, I always stop at my favorite first, NBC. So I was there real early one day, a few months ago, before they where open. It was drizzling, and I was chilling out on the railing in front. Then this guy comes up with a custom messenger bag, but he didn’t look all that into biking (casual appeal), so I struck up a conversation. Turns out the guy was some local Dj who just moved to Boston and was trying to establish himself in town. So that was the reason for the bag (lps). Anyway, the staff guy comes to the door and opens up, so my new acquaintance and me stroll inside and both, naturally, head strait for the records. Then we get into this big talk about spinning and mixing and stuff which I am rather ignorant but interested in. Then we check out and he reaches over to his left, at that black counter with all the show/demos (u know, the table thing right as u are walking out to ur left) well anyway he takes out a sharpie and writes his sig, and says its 21+ just show them that and you willl get in no prob. I was pumped, this guy was so chill, but … I never followed through with the proposal… which I am kicking myself about to this day. I guess that’s sort of y I joined this … to be reminded about all the cool things that I want to do, but always get side tracked and forget.

a good friend of mine worked here and since i worked at LaTete salon on Newbury street i would often pass by Newbery Comics and stop inside to see what new music, DVDs and other odds and ends had been released.

I know there's more than one locale...

...but I’ve definitely been to this spot during my 2002 visit to Boston, as this is where a bunch of us met up with the good Mr. Dan Perry, scholar and gent, for the first time. Also the shopping was worth it, so no complaints (and I’ve ordered from the chain online as well, never had any problems so credit to them!).

Saw Elliott Smith Here 10.5.98

Several years back I got to see Elliott SMith play a set with Sam and Janet of Quasi as his supporting band. It was crowded and incredibly hot, but worth it… he was amazing.
he played:
unknown (stopped)
waltz #2 (xo)
christian brothers
alameda
give me love (give me peace on earth)
between the bars
the white lady loves you more
st. ide’s heaven
when i paint my masterpiece
