Sandy Hook is a great family place to visit all year round. Keep watching the NPS web site for events that occur all year round.

Fun N' Sun by Jaharra

Gunnison Beach at Sandy Hook was a well kept secret for some time. It’s the best clothing optional beach in the area.

People are friendly and the beach well kept. If you really enjoy being free and au natural this is the place to visit.

After a day of sun check out the Seagull’s Nest on the way out.

It’s a great spot for a cocktail and some live music.

Specifically, Gunnison Beach near the north end. It is a LEGAL nude beach, run by the US Government. If you haven’t tried going to a nude beach, you should— it will not only be the most pleasant way to be on a beach, but it will be a setting for personal growth. Recommend you arrive early— it’s the most popular beach there, and the parking lot fills up early. Bring a beach umbrella, since there is ZERO shade anywhere. But do NOT bring a bathing suit!

There are better NJ beaches than this by Erik

but it was pretty cool. I rode my mountain bike all the way here from Matawan with a buddy once. On a clear day or at night, you could see the New York skyline from here.
