Manhattan

It’s self-nicknamed, the ‘Little Big Apple.’ Pretty funny.

I lived in Manhattan, KS for four years during college at Kansas State University. It was one of the best times in my life, a time that made me realise what I could accompolish if I set my mind to it. It was a time of working hard, studying hard and having fun at being in the US for the first time.

and while i havent been back in quite a few years. it’s a great town with a lot of nice people.

I’ve spent over what is closing in on seven years here: five years of college and a few years after college.

This is an absolutely terrible place to be for even short periods of time and has no redeeming features or value. It is possible to survive here, but it doesn’t really qualify as living.

As other have mentioned the only things to do here are drink and go to college football games. Since I don’t drink and don’t like football this skews my perceptions a bit.

Previous comments that there is no art or culture are dead-on. If you simply must be in a college town in Kansas go to Lawrence.

I was traveling by car from Las Vegas to New York City in 2002 and I stopped for a night at a colleague’s home just outside Manhatten. He’s a consultant and author, and he and his wife live on a small farm. We enjoyed staying up with a bottle of wine, talking till past midnight. In the morning they cooked up some scrambled eggs, fresh from the chickens in their henhouse. It was a pleasant enough stop, but I can’t think of any other reason I’d want to spend a night there. To me, the only Manhattan worth visiting is on the Hudson.

Incredibly boring town, unless it’s football season. Then it’s pretty awesome, but only on the weekends, and only if you can find a good place to watch the game. Not much to do here. But, then again, I am a college student, so I just might not be seeing the potential.

we were there visiting friends many many years ago…i remember very little other than rolling hills and thinking this kansas was quite nice. :o)

I’ll be the first to admit that my vision may be a bit skewwed, seeing as the person I was with made my trip memorable. But I really did enjoy the town! Small enough to make you feel safe, yet large enough to make you feel like there’s something to do (I come from a small town, so this was quite a treat), I felt so comfortable here. I got to visit K-State, or at least a part of the student union and the computer lab…did the movies, ate at Old Chicago, toured the mall (a complete accident brought about by not being able to get into the place I was hanging out at while the visitee was in class), got to see the hospital (chuckles), drank in Aggieville, and saw the whole city from the top of the hill, right above the letters that spell ‘Manhattan.’ In truth, I thought it a wonderful town, and I can’t wait to visit again…

I haven’t been back since my family moved in 1987, but I have fond memories of the place.
