Why I want to go to this place — 4 weeks ago
The ruins and history – going back to Biblical times, is so huge it’s unfathomable to me. I’d like to see it in person and just feel myself in a place so different than what I know.

I was jetlagged, but the sun was setting and it was (and is) one of the most beautiful places I’ve ever been.

Impressive in photos, even more impressive in real life. Your photos will be full of scaffolding and other tourists, but they will still look amazing!
It looks stunning illuminated at night too!

Rather quiet while we were there. Great views over the city and it looks great at night all illuminated staring down on Athens.

you need to get your picture in front of the acropolis now, don’t you? and i think it is important to get a perspective and feeling on a non-Roman ancient European culture. A lot of tourists but it has to be done.

...as my father told me the story of how the building was destroyed. It was chilling to hear of people with so little care for artifacts, let alone other lives.

I first visited the Parthenon in 1976 and we were able to walk right through it! Of course, you can’t do that now and they have done a lot of restorative work on it since then, especially for the Olympic Games!
