Papermoon Diner

I think this place is amazing, I love going here. There’s always something to look at. The staff are always really nice, and you get served by everyone! Very unorthodox, but part of what makes it so fun. Get there early if you’re going for sunday brunch, and be prepared it’s a bit pricey too.

But when it’s bad it’s horrid. It’s a little pricey for what you get and the service isn’t great unless you know the staff (or this is what i gleaned from observation). But the food is really good. Lots of good vegetarian options and I recommend the apple pie. Mmmmm-mmmmm.

I visited the States in August and I have to admit, it’s kinda annoying that every second restaurant is a franchise, but when I went to a show in Baltimore and wanted some coffee afterwards, my friends went to this place with me. I fell in love in the first moment. It’s just crazy and I love kitsch, I wanted to run around and look at everything :D.
But I have to admit, I read some of the reviews on other homepages and a few people mentioned, they had to wait forever to get seated, it didn’t happen to us, but we were sitting on the bar and I saw at least two times people waiting for more than a minute and the place wasn’t busy at all.
Anyway… if I’ll ever come back to Baltimore, I will insist of going there again with my friends (I bet I wont find it on my own) and I recomended it already to all of my friends :-)

I found out about this place here on 43 places. Talked my husband into going today. It is such a funky cool place and the food is great! I wish I’d found this place before our friends came to visit us from Phoenix, they would have loved it too!

i was disappointed when i came here recently! since 2001 its been my most favorite place to eat sweet potato fries… they used to make them like sweetpotato mash sticks, breaded like mozz sticks, so flippin tasty, i was in love… last week i ordered them (after being away from baltimore a year) and they were like every other place with sweet potato fries… like french fries but orange. dude. not cool! i’m sad about it.

but i still adore paper moon and have lovely memories there.

paper moon is special.

it seems they’ve been doing a little re-decorating recently. nothing big, just some subtle changes. I need to bring my camera back there again. I just went here again on Saturday (two days ago). yay Paper Moon Cafe/Diner.

The first thing I noticed as I entered was a set of “first-timer” rules. “What kind of place is this?” I thought and quickly read rules – very much a what you see is what you get place :) The decor is really fun and very studenty if a bit run down looking :) Don’t expect to be served quickly but the staff are very friendly. The food was nice if a bit expensive for what it was and not particularily well presented. I would also recommend going in a small group – seeting is scarce so large groups will have to wait; individuals don’t get tables but instead sit at the bar. Overall I would say the atmosphere won out over other considerations and mark this place out as something other than one of a glut of souless chain stores and copy-cat diners.

The Paper Moon is a great little eatery. Small plastic toys and every type of kitsch you can imagine adorn the walls, ceiling fan and just about anywhere you can glue something down. The food is pretty cheap and the atmosphere stellar. You can smoke at the bar, but they don’t serve liquor. It’s a favorite hotspot when the clubs let out b/c it’s open 24/7.

I was about 10 years old the first time I went to Paper Moon, and I feel in love with the atmosphere. I started using the scenery as inspiration for my decorating and artwork.. and even did a 3D multimedia piece in middle school called “paper moon” with my torn up barbie dolls and got sent to the guidance conselour because they thought I had self-image issues. Besides that though, the food was great. I got this pasta.. I forget what it’s called.. but I’ll never forget my milkshake I had.

Great place for anthing from casual-reuinion lunches to fun playful dates.

Highly reccomended.

it’s a toy land. it was put together by a bunch of MICA students… so of course it’s awesome. good milkshakes, too. i can’t wait to go back
