Baden-Baden

I went to Baden Baden when I lived in Germany. I went to the old baths…had a great & out-there spa day. The facilities were nice, but be prepared to be naked! I went into the change room and felt a bit strange talking off my clothes and leaving them in the locker. Then I went through to the ladies only shower areas (some were hot water, others lukewarm, and others cold). Then I went through to the treatment room where some German woman scrubbed my skin until I was red all over! It hurt like hell, but i felt cleaner than ever before in my life! :) After that I went into to the pool area. Later I went upstairs and checked out some of the hot tubs and saunas. Then got a massage…that was a bit strange given my fully naked state. I didn’t relax actually.

In general, I loved the Baden Baden spa – a pretty unique experience for me.

I have been to a lot of places in Germany, but this one sticks in my mind. Maybe because I like the name, which I believe means Bath? There is water here that is suppossed to keep your youth.

Unless you are looking for a quiet, relaxing spa town vacation, Baden Baden is not much of a destination. The hostel was very nice and clean, nestled up on a hill among trees, and with a beautiful view. The streets were pretty and lined with green but terminally sleepy. Got lost because none of the tourist maps of the city seemed to have the train station on them. I sometimes wonder if Baden Baden is the nexus of the Universe.
