How this place changed my life
Ah, college. I wouldn’t go here if I was doing it over, but I can say that Smith is truly an interesting place to spend your formative years. I’ll never forget it.

The first time I went to this place
I visited one of my close friends. It was September of her freshman year there and the week of her birthday. My mother and I took her out to dinner in North Hampton and I spent the night with her in her dorm. The campus was interesting and a bit spooky at night.

How this place changed my life
I graduated from Smith in ‘04 and I have four years of almost entirely positive memories of the school. It’s beautiful and green and impeccably maintained and full of women learning and teaching and expanding themselves. Returning to Smith still makes me grin.

I was an Ada Comstock Scholar at Smith. That means that I started going there when I was “above the traditional age” of college students. I graduated last year, by the skin of my teeth. It is a beautiful campus, and it’s worth the visit. The art museum is as great for kids as it is for adults. The Greenhouse and gardens are wonderful. My daughter especially loved the “rainforest room” in the greenhouse.

Overnight in a dorm
When you’re a guy on the campus of a women’s college, your first night in the dorms seems like a dream come true. Turns out it’s not the fantasy you may have concocted. Nevertheless, Smith seems like a wholly respectable place filled with top-notch women and, surprisingly, a lot of men, even in the dorms. I wouldn’t be at all displeased if my daughters were to go there.
