    Worth visiting!

I’ve never really stopped here for more than a bite to eat or a couple litres of gas, but I must say it’s very convenient that it’s there. There have been many times where we’ve been running on empty, or near starving and Gander was literally the only hope =P.

Quick stop  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

I thought I would be cheating on this since I was only in the airport, but I see others have done the same! We stopped here for an hour or so on our way back from Iraq. It was the middle of the night, so the airport was deserted except for the employees and us. The gift shop had some cute Canadian stuff but was really expensive—five regular postcards and one postage-prepaid postcard cost U.S. $7.25.

There is a neat mural painted around the terminal, and there was also a handout explaining why Newfoundland is on a different time zone (30 minutes earlier).

That’s how long I spent there! Another airport stopover. I would love to go back to Canada again. Anywhere in Canada.

If you have time, see the memorial to the plane that went down not that long ago with all American service men on board. All were lost. It is a moving tribute.

Airport in a forest  — 3 years ago

    Worth visiting!

I’m not really qualified to put this down as I only had a quick stopover in the airport (my feet did at least touch the ground). Wierd approach – the whole place seemed to be surrounded by trees for hundreds of miles and in the middle, there was this almost-empty airport.

Some time ago, a friend told me about the Stephen King novel, The Langoliers and everytime I think of this story, I remember Gander. I really should read the book.
