Point Pleasant

I used to go here every summer with my family when I was younger. I recently went again with my friends this past summer and it was still awesome! I’m now attending college in Tennessee and I long for the Jersey shore all the time.

I used to go every summer as a kid. The boardwalk has the best orange/vanilla sherbet ever.

The Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge (http://njpolarplunge.sonj.org/) was held for the last time in Point Pleasant in 2006. The “official” story was that there were too many people from the plunge, most having ties to law enforcement in other municipalities, acting drunk and disorderly and the town not having enough police of their own to manage them. I have done the plunge for seven years now and have seen precisely two thoroughly inebriated people during that time. Both barely made it out of the water and I doubt either of them were standing up much longer afterwards.

Seaside Heights, further south and with a far more alcohol soaked boardwalk than Point, has graciously taken over the Plunge. I think once Point realizes how much money it loses from the event (most of the boardwalk is open for this, including restaurants and arcades), they may try to coax Special Olympics northward again.

Went the end of last summer and had a blast!

For a touristy beach town, it’s a great choice. Make sure you eat “frozen custard” from Kohr’s on the boardwalk. That alone is worth the drive from the city.
