    Worth visiting!

I used to go here every summer with my family when I was younger. I recently went again with my friends this past summer and it was still awesome! I’m now attending college in Tennessee and I long for the Jersey shore all the time.

I used to go every summer as a kid. The boardwalk has the best orange/vanilla sherbet ever.

Say goodbye to the Polar Bear Plunge...  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

The Special Olympics Polar Bear Plunge (http://njpolarplunge.sonj.org/) was held for the last time in Point Pleasant in 2006. The “official” story was that there were too many people from the plunge, most having ties to law enforcement in other municipalities, acting drunk and disorderly and the town not having enough police of their own to manage them. I have done the plunge for seven years now and have seen precisely two thoroughly inebriated people during that time. Both barely made it out of the water and I doubt either of them were standing up much longer afterwards.

Seaside Heights, further south and with a far more alcohol soaked boardwalk than Point, has graciously taken over the Plunge. I think once Point realizes how much money it loses from the event (most of the boardwalk is open for this, including restaurants and arcades), they may try to coax Special Olympics northward again.

For a touristy beach town, it’s a great choice. Make sure you eat “frozen custard” from Kohr’s on the boardwalk. That alone is worth the drive from the city.

Went here with my family a lot when I lived in NJ. It’s cool.

Not the best beach New Jersey has to offer by far  — 2 years ago

but again, good for a day trip. And Jenk’s on the pier is one of the few bar/clubs I’ve ever been to that I actually like.

Cheesy beach boardwalk  — 2 years ago

    Not worth it!

Just went last night with some people from work. We walked the boardwalk, went on some rides and had a beer. Everything felt slightly dirty. One high light was that Southside Johnny was palying at a bar there and we sat on teh beach and heard some of the music.

I always forget the difference between Point Pleasant and Wildwood. But hell. Jersey Shore is Jersey Shore—head shops, bars, and fake palm tree’d motels.

    Delicious!

Bennies go home?  — 3 years ago

    Worth visiting!

I was raised in Manasquan, moved to Pt. Pleasant, then went to college in Rochester, NY.

Beach badges are miserable thing for year-round residents to have to deal with, so thx for your BS presence, bennies.

Feel free to pee on my lawn next time you’re drunk, too. It really drives home the pleasant atmosphere you bring with you.
