The first time I went to this place  — 1 year ago

    Not worth it!

I lived here during the middle 1970’s. I loved it. I couldn’t get over all the older folks. lol! What am I saying I’m a older folk now! Hwy 41 was a killer then. But I just loved Sarasota especially st arman’s key and lido beach. I spent many a happy time there. Is Big Daddy’s still there? lol! I went to Ringling and it was so laid back. Now its just a commercial enterprize. The hideway bar is gone and probably some other hangouts. I was from the deep south and Sarasota was a culture shock to me back then, lol! The Ringling museum, home and the asolo theatre. I use to sneek into the new college pool when it was locked up at night. I want to go back and see the changes. Is the oberlins diner on 301 still open? Best fish in town!

I grew up here. While I thought it was the worst place in the world when I was younger, the second I moved away I missed it. Gorgeous beaches, wonderful cultural events and a sense of community. Don’t miss out on St. Armand’s Cirlce or Siesta Key. You have to go to Kilwin’s to get ice cream and watch them make fudge and it would be a crime to miss a sunset at City Island Park. Check out the Van Wezle and the Aslo to see what shows they have playing because most likely someone has something great showing. Mote Marine is always fun and educational if you have kids and if you are single, Sarasota is close enough to Tampa and Clearwater to really experience the night life of Florida. Sarasota is a must see. Don’t miss it.

I went to Sarasota with my boyfriend Jay to celebrate my birthday last year. It was the first time either of us had been there. What a beautiful place! WOW. I recommend it to anyone.

We stayed in the Lido Beach Resort and had an oceanview room. Talk about ROMANTIC…!

The sand bars are fun to walk out on. Watch the tide though!
I stepped on a little bat ray or whatever and it scared me so keep an eye out for those too.

It’s warm, its got a beach, you can go shopping… it’s pretty much meant for tourists. I’m not sure I like living here though :/

Sarasota sucks... (Pic is the John Ringling Mansion.)  — 1 year ago

The subject matches my desciption of this place and since I am true cracker here from sarasota I am entitled to it…

My mother is 60 and I am 20 for years we’ve we haven’t found many amusing things to do, and as the years progress life just gets duller here in SRQ. Music isn’t really aloud to be played after 8pm in majority of areas, so bands and clubs are restricted to 1 or 2 streets here. A lot of the clubs that we did have closed down, or turn to homosexual.

Tourists season begins 1st week or Oct. and ends last week of Apr., but this year it seemed like it never stopped. Also, homes around here don’t cost less than 250,000 and that for a 2 bedroom/1 bath in a crappy neighbrohood. Bussinesses are suffering, and we don’t really have a mall people really care to go to. Our buses end by 6pm and don’t run on Sundays. Traffic is horrible, with the elderly and construction.

We have poor education, and our best school is an art school which is what are downtown is filled of. None, of them are making money and it’s rundown there. We do have one great beach, but everyday is overpacked, and you can’t enjoy it without being stepped on while tanning or have some quiet time to yourself. The people are stuck up rich ass folks, and dumb younger people.

    It’s a great place to die at, I guess…

It used to be somewhat quiet, then it was only tolerable. Now it is mired by traffic and generally overpopulated. No longer a “getaway” like much of the Florida coast.

Sarasota and Venice- my mother is from there and I’ve been a few times. It’s got mostly older people, but if you want semi-quiet relaxing beaches, this a good place with a small town feel.
