    Labor Day, 1984.
Mind you, I only got as far as St. Ignace, and I rode my bike across the Mackinac Bridge to get there.

Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

We’ve had a number of wonderful stays at Deer Park Lodge on Muskallonge Lake, right on the top edge of the UP, about half-way across.

The lodge has a nice beach, boat rentals, clean and comfortable cabins, lots of birds, a general store, and super proprietors. It’s also a long walk, or very short ride, to the beautiful shores of Lake Superior, if you enjoy long walks and distant horizons.

You can learn more about Deer Park Lodge at their blog.

A tip I have about this place  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

Dont go if you absolutely need fast internet and a lot of tv.
this place is not for city people – if thats the only kind of life they are able to live.

this is a good place for retirement and relaxation. its a calm and naturesque place. this is a good place to recollect yourself and get away from a lot of the outside world’s excitement. i highly recommend this place. i have a log cabin there in Rexton.

good place to go snow mobiling.
[mobiiling is highly popular with tourists]
    very very beautiful area.
    very friendly people.
lots of snow in the winter, nice and warm in the summer.

[the picture is of my land before we built the cabin on it.]

    Pasties  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

Here is something good – in the UP they have this thing that is as prevalent as a breakfast taco in my native Austin. It is called, I crap you not, a Pastie. Pasties are kind of like a yummy hot pocket of veggies, cheese and meat. My husband and I have been forever laughing about the name that sounds like the thing that strippers use over their nips. We just thought this was pronounced “PACE-tee”.

WELL. It wasn’t until after we loudly called them that, even ordered them that way, that we read in our tourist book that they are, in fact, pronounced “PAST-ee”. The tourist book said, “Make sure you don’t pronounce it PACE-tee like the stripper accessory!” It even had AN EXCLAMATION POINT. oops.

I learned to ski here...  — 2 years ago

And never broke anything despite some MAJOR wipeouts on the slopes! Ah, the joys of youth and bones that are still bendy. It’s FREEZING cold and the slopes are great for everyone in the whole family. I had many a fun youth group trip up here in the winter. And I repeat, the Midwest rules!
