I took the hyline traditional ferry over – it took 2 hours and wasn’t all that comfortable. It was rainy when we got to Nantucket – so we just did some shopping, went to lunch and then walked to the Brant Lighthouse. I’d like to go back someday in better weather and spend the night and explore farther parts of the island.

Seriously, avoid the high tourist season (July and August). It is a miserable time to be there if you want to do anything but feel like you’re at a seaside resort. Come up in late May or early June to get the nice start-of-summer weather and avoid crowded everything.

Nantucket Island has Bed and Breakfasts that rival any I’ve seen before. Warm and quaint little spot. You’d never believe that this was a part of the State it really belongs to!

So peaceful and beautiful, it’s a great place to go with family and relax. The locals are very friendly. Don’t forget it’s still a small island, if you’re a party animal this isn’t the place for you.

I’ll never say a place is not worth visiting because there is beauty everywhere. however, there are definitely other locations in the cape that are less crowded and have more tranquility, like cuttyhunk.

    Another summer sailing destination.
I hear it has changed drastically over the years, becoming over-developed and over croweded.

Living on Long Island nearly my whole life (except for college and some travel time), I see that here primarily on the East end of LI. It kills me that people do not see the value in the land…but choose to make value of retail stores and parking lots. Ugh.
