Long Beach

There isn’t much to say of when I went. I went here once when I was just a kid on a really cold, windy and rainy day and we didn’t have wet suits so we didn’t go in the water. (Other people were in there without wet suits on, and it made my mother cold just looking at them.) The waves were nice since it was so windy; the one other thing I remember being special about this beach was the sand, it was really white and fine.

I lived here in the mid 1970’s at which time there were so many retired Navy people living there (mostly senior citizens) that one of the main forms of transportation was golf carts! I have been back a few times and still find a little place off Ximeno Ave called Egg Heaven to be a great place to eat breakfast. Loaded hash browns are my favorite.

I came here once, when I was young and just letting my experiences shape my perception. It was my first encounter with the vastness of the world, knowing that the ocean stretches from the point I stood on for distances that I could not fathom as a child. Growing up, it no longer held such mystery. But, to stand at the edge of the ocean and look out into a sight that has captivated men for hundreds of years…is majestic.

This beach has special meaning for me. It is one of my “happy” places.

The sand is so soft. And the waves are perfect for body surfing.

Had a great time walking along the beach. Had a picnic amongst the driftwood (massive trees really!)

Beautiful beach, I am going again.
