Saw the tapestry, but couldn’t get to the landing beaches because they charge you an $80 van ride to get there. The tapestry was worth the trip though. Gory, but evocative. It’s hard to believe someone made it by hand, considering how long it is. But back then, well you know…

Bayeux has a place not just in WWII history, but in the Norman conquest of England, and that’s why I visited. It’s the home of the Bayeux Tapestry, an amazing record of the events leading up to October 14, 1066.
