How this place changed my life  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

Kefallonia, is one of the most amazing places on this Earth. I moved out there, a year ago, alone. I stayed for 6 months, but sadly had to return due to a family emergency, and then met my English boyfriend, so decided to stay with him.
But… There is something magical about that place, I have never felt so happy in my entire life. I lived very simply, in a small tent, under some olive trees, and I felt as if I owned the whole world!

Why I recommend this place to visitors  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

I love all the Greek Islands (all the ones I’ve visited anyway), but Kephalonia is a bit special. The people are lovely and theres a certain mystical magic in the air that I’ve never experienced anywhere else.

If you visit, make sure you hire a car, every resort is different from the one before and it would be a shame to come here and miss out.

Why I want to go to this place  — 2 years ago

The Pantelios side of my Greek family is from Kephalonia. Last week we buried my yiayia next to her mother who immigrated to America in 1919. Most of my relatives have since moved to Athens or Mikonos. I still want to see my island.

Been here loads of times  — 2 years ago

Normally stay in Lixouri, not all that touristy so there are always plenty of appartments to rent or you could look at the summery hotel web site.

    Been here 7 or 8 times :)  — 2 years ago

This is just a lovely island. Me and my family have been here 7 or 8 times and we always stay in Lassi. The people are incredibly friendly, there’s plenty to do and see, the beaches are gorgeous…the attractions go on and on.

Even Better the Second Time  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

Had a really relaxing two weeks in Kepholonia. Stayed in Skala again (see above), but in an apartment nearer the beach. Weather perfect: 2 minutes of rain in the fortnight.

Hired a car and revisited Melissani Lake, Assos, Myrtos Beach and Fiskardo. Visited for the first time Argostoli (the capital) and Karavomilos Lake: another manifestation of the katovathres. Don’t bother visiting the other end of the katavothres system at Argostoli: it’s very disappointing!

If you want to see more pictures of the holiday see my Flickr set.

Going in the next few weeks  — 3 years ago

    Worth visiting!

I’ve actually been to Kephalonia before, but I was so impressed I’m going again in the next few weeks. It’s the beautiful island in which the book Captain Corelli’s Mandolin was set. The film was also made there.

Many of the buildings were destroyed in an earthquake in 1953. A lot of the population of the island left at the time, but many of them have returned.

Melissani lake is one of the highlights. Assos (above) and Myrtos Beach are also worth seeing.
