A tiny NC mountain town that was nowheresville when I was young and restless (not the soap opera), but has become quite the wee resort / getaway / hometown since. Plenty to do, tho not too much as befits a small town. Great hikes, camping, all the outdoor fun – check out DuPont state forest a few miles out Kanuga Road. Fly fishing for delicious rainbow trout! Beautiful mountains, “the city of four seasons”, NC Apple Festival every Labor Day weekend. Historic Flat Rock just S of town, close to Asheville if you need a CityFix. Hope to move there in the next few months and learn to love it again as a grownup. In the years I’ve lived elsewhere (lots of elsewheres), others have either never heard of Hendersonville OR… “I went to camp there!” Lots O’ summer camps… one of them (Camp Tonawanda) now hosts the Flat Rock Music Festival in May, prior to the summer camp season. Haven’t been yet, but the lineup sounds great every year. Another music tidbit: Remember the “Little River Band”? Seems that one of the band members’ has bought the historic Woodfield Inn – I hear that they end their world tour each year with an intimate show out on the Inn’s lawn. Ironic, given that they are an Australian band… Woodfield Inn is within a mile of the local road “Little River Road.” No connexion, unless they were around in the early 1800’s. OK. Enough trivia. Hendersonville? Yes, it changed my life. Kickstarted it, anyway. - Charlie over 6 years agowell it's worth visiting for me... by LoqiI spent a lot of time here when I was younger and this is where my parents house is…it’s always nice to go there because I have a ton of good friends and wonderful family. However if you haven’t spent a lot of time here I’d recommend going to Asheville instead. over 7 years agoHendersonville by beadandelionevery summer for the first 13 years over 7 years ago |
