First time
After eating and drinking at Palomino last night, one of the two places my wife and I went on our second date, we decided to walk toward Belltown as we also did that night twelve years ago. But instead of ending up at the Crocodile like we did then, we kept walking down Second Avenue and pulled in at Tula’s. We’d never been to Tula’s and it just so happened that local vibraphonist Susan Pascal was playing. In no time at all we were in, seated, and sipping drinks, enjoying an excellent straight-up jazz quartet in one of the premier jazz venues in town. This seemed like a real stroke of luck. Vibraphone used to be my instrument back in the day, and seeing a quartet lead by a vibraphonist filled me with some strong emotions. I have to admit to some sense of regret at having given up the instrument. Youth is wasted on the young.
But at least now I have Tula’s.

Good local jazz
Tula’s has top local jazz groups nearly every night at cheap prices. The food is fairly good.
