Why I want to go to this place — 2 months ago
My friend is going to be teaching English there so I have a good excuse to check out the sites and learn some new while visiting her.

Macau is a very cool place – perfect balance of history, food and fun! Catch taxis in between the tourist sites if you are on a time limit – they are everywhere and you will rarely pay more than HK/MOP$12 per ride. If you have the time, spend a night checking out the casinos. They are quite amazing, even just to observe!

I went with my cousin and her team last summer. Unfortunately, we didn’t have the time to spend walking around or shopping, so I did not see as much as I’d have liked.
It has some nice views of the sea, and it’s interesting to see the obvious, strong Portuguese influence on everything.

great as side trip.. just a boat ride away from hong kong.. and shopping is cheaper than HK for the same quality

I was studying portuguese in Macau on July 2-27,2007. It’s really a beatiful city. “Ruínas de São Paulo” is the most famous place of interest n it’s well worth visiting. If you go there, you can also try portuguese food in Restaurant Santos.

stay for a day or two. wonderful delightful place…. like a combination of Vegas, Hawaii, Portugal, and China! Although its casino districts are more like Reno. The Portuguese old centre is really beautiful and fun to stroll around. Much more tropical feel to Macau than in HK.
The super fast Turbojet hovercraft ferries take 50 minutes from HK to Macau, great experience. Good food! However, Macanese Bacalhau is especially salty.

I was searching about Portugal and the Portuguese language and I came to know that they spoke it in the region (?) of Macau in China. I was not very familiar with Macau before, and didn’t know that a place like that under China existed. I was pretty amazed! I really want to go there now; it’s definitely one of the tops on my list.

nothing much to see. it’s like old Manila (in the Philippines). i don’t like the food. i almost throw up in every meal. good thing there is mcdonald’s. i went to hong kong the day after.
there are new buildings being developed like the venetian hotel. though i’ve been to venetian hotel, las vegas a couple of times so it won’t excite me even if i come back to macau…
i saw Mr. Wynn, the owner of Wynn hotel during my trip.

Daniel415 asks,
“Does anyone in Macau still speak Portuguese?
I ask because I'm a native English speaker with not a lick of Cantonese beyond "No, thank you." But I can get by in Portuguese. Is it any use, or is it just a historical artifact these days?”
