How this place changed my life
My boyfriend and I were on our way back from a road trip over the holidays, and we had decided to take the Lewes Ferry back to NJ. We drove around the back country for hours looking at old plantation houses, and graves. It seemed all we did the whole trip was look at remnants of a better time for the south.
We finally arrived at Chincoteague Island, and they were 30 minutes from closing, as it was almost sun set. I was determined to see horses, and had planned on getting there much earlier.
We parked the car, and started walking. We weren’t on the main beach park, were were on a sort of drive way that went into the bay. While I thought I heard something behind us, my boyfriend turned to me and said this is it.
The sun was setting and the sky had turned purple, and on the other side the huge orange moon was full and rising across the sky.
Dylan Day got down on one knee and started crying and said “I never want to be with anyone else, will you marry me?”
He took out a white box and opened it, and there was my ring.
I said of course, and we’ve been together ever since.

Amazingly gorgeous – camping on the beach with wild horses and hearing the waves crashing all night made this one of the best outdoor experiences I’ve had.

The first time I went to this place
I came to Chincoteague for the first time with Bob, in November, when the waves were quiet and creeping up the beach, and while we collected sea shells, Bob got lazy, and got his ass wet trying to get away from the waves. His truck seat smelled like the ocean for a week.

nice to go during off-season
If you like quiet getaways… Chincoteague is a great place to go (especially during the off-season). My parents have friends who let us all use the house whenever we want. Because of busy work schedules we all just choose one week and stick with it. We’ve been going in early September, and it’s great! You can still go to the beach some days, to swim or to just watch the waves. It’s awesome. Can’t wait to go in a month!
