I went to Barrow in Summer,1999 with my family. When we went, there was a festival, something to do with Whale Hunting. The natives were very friendly and let all of us get involved. They had a trampoline made of animal skin held by a circle of people, and offered us all whale blubber, the only time I have ever had any. We ate at a Mexican Restaurant while there, which to this day is still the best Mexican food I have ever had. Some memorable sights were the whale skeletons around the town used as decorations, and the Northernmost Point in the U.S. sign. Watch out for polar bears!

WINTER
AMAZING trip. . . we were there for New Years 2000. Like no other place I’ve been. Seeing the Northern lights from the plane was a trip in itself!

Because a flight attendant paid for it
I had never been to Alaska when a flight attendant offered me a free flight to Barrow. As she put it “You’ll never have a reason to go there but you have to go!” and before I knew it she had non-reved me to the top of the world. During my 36 hour visit I ate whale (tastes like a boot not chicken), learned the definition of a damp town. Had amazing guacamole at the northern most Mexican restaurant in the world and saw a polar bear while riding shot gun in an old skewl Hummer. Cool town (pun intended) go if only to say you’ve been there!!
