Avon

This used to be our annual family vacation spot, but unfortunately we’ve had to cut back on trips. I miss kayaking and just relaxing with a good book while listening to the crashing waves.

Miles of wide, low beaches separated by high dunes from the houses. A week each year relaxing with my extended family in the sun and surf, building sand castles below the high-tide line. Look forward to sharing it with our son.

It’s fairly quiet and far enough away from the big touristy spots to still hold part of the Outer Banks charm. Be prepared to spend some sweltering days on the beach if you get a house on the dunes for a week. You can cook out on the beach here, so bring your portable grill!
