Sturgis

I grew up in Black Hawk, SD. Went to High School in Sturgis. I’ve always loved the rally there! I left SD in July in favor of college elsewhere. Needless to say I haven’t had a chance to go back to Sturgis in August for the rally. This year I finally get to go back for that special week!

It’s hot and sticky but well worth the ton’s of bikes and men on parade.

I went to the 2002 bike week and rode 1700 miles to get there. Lots of rain, cool nights and I slept on 2 picnic tables on the way there. Not alot of rooms available. While packing my little bag I debated on whether or not to bring thermal stuff. Good thing I did cause I’ve never seen such dramatic change in weather. 90° sunny one day and 35°, sideways rain, hail and tornado the next. Very cool.

When the bikers aren’t there, this place is as dead as can be.

Go during the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally (not sure why anyone would go any other time) and take a trip to Mount Rushmore nearby. It’s fun to see so many leather jackets and tatoos out mixed with the majestic forest surrounding.

It’s probably really only worth visiting during the Rally. Not much there otherwise.

What a party. Great bikes, babes and tons of music and friends to just pass the whole week away. Good rides,

Ugh… STAY AWAY!!! Want some good advice? NEVER go to Sturgis, South Dakota! Sturgis is just a street, that’s it. It’s not big, and the only intresting thing that EVER goes on, is the Rally, which, isn’t that great. Bikers come for a week (yay, no bordem) bikers go and they don’t come back for a year. So, if you MUST go, go during like the first week of August when the Rally is going on.

When the bikers come into this little town, everything changes!

Sturgis is only worth visiting if you come while the bikers are there. Otherwise there’s nothing special about this area. That’s the only reason I’m marking it “Not worth visiting”. When I went some years ago it was actually like the week BEFORE the Sturgis bike festival, and there were a LOT of interesting characters hanging around town. If you go during that time be prepared for a lot of red-skinned (as in sun-burnt) people walking around all over.
