The last time I went to this place

They’ve just re-opened “It’s a Small World.” Look for some classic Disney Characters in there. They actually blend in fairly well. We saw Peter Pan, Pinocchio, Cinderella, Mulan, Donald Duck (as part of the Three Caballeros in Mexico), Lilo and Stitch, among others. The lyrics of the songs have been expanded a bit as well. Always a fun ride – and it still is!

A rumor about this place

I’ve heard stories of feral cats which live on the grounds at Disneyland. They supposedly stay largely out of sight during the day and come out at night and hunt rodents.

I had never actually seen one of these cats until my most recent visit. I was sitting in the restaurant in Frontierland and caught a glimpse of something from the corner of my eye. I looked over and saw a cat, roaming around the [outdoor] dining area of the restaurant.

I wonder how many cats there are roaming around the park.

Keeping the Grounds Clean

Disneyland is well-known for its cleanliness, among other things. The park grounds are kept relatively free from trash and debris thanks to a small army of cast members who roam the property armed with a broom and a dustpan on the end of stick. When they spot a piece of debris on the ground they quickly and efficiently scoop it up, using a single easy motion of the broom and dustpan. It’s a thing of beauty to watch.

One day while going into the park with R9 we saw a pair of underwear lying on the ground near the area where the hotel shuttles stop. These weren’t toddler’s training pants mind you, we’re talking genuine, bonfide underwear. We paused momentarily and pondered with each other the hows and whys of such an unlikely item in such an unlikely spot.

While we stood there one of the sweeper crew came by and scooped it up. I turned to the cast member and said, “I’ll bet that’s the sort of thing that you don’t sweep up very often.”

His reply was, “This is actually my third or fourth pair this week.”

We were amazed.

Overheard at this place

While going through the security gate near the entrance to the park the person ahead of me in line was stopped. They told her, “I’m sorry but you’re not allowed to enter the park dressed as a pirate.”

Her response was, “I’m not a pirate, I’m an Old English peasant.”

“I’m sorry, you look like a pirate to me. You’ll have to wait here.”

“I’m a peasant I tell you, I’m not a pirate! Can’t you people tell the difference between a peasant and a pirate???”

R9 and I just chuckled to ourselves and went into the park.
