A new perspective at night  — 4 weeks ago

Worth visiting!

I visited the London Eye in the evening not long after it opened – not by design, we just left it a bit late to book our advance tickets! The first surprise is that the Eye doesn’t actually pause to let people get into the pods – it’s moving so slowly that there’s time for you to get on whilst it rotates.

The second was how completely different my hometown looks at night. There were the obvious viewpoints – the Canary Wharf tower twinkling in the east, the beautifully lit Houses of Parliament and Big Ben below. We were puzzling over an imposing building further downstream on the opposite bank and decided that it must be a previously unknown museum. It turned out to be Charing Cross station. Oops!

Worth visiting!

Although you have a great view of London, I would say that your money and time is much better spent on a cruis up the Thames.. It was a 3 hour wait to get on…

Worth visiting!

Well worth the visit, especially when its dusk, as the lights over the city are spectacular, but make sure its not raining! first time i went up, couldn’t see much because of the rain. Don’t be put off by the queues, just get a hot dog, and take turns in the queue, it moves pretty quickly anyway. Dont buy the photos they take, very expensive and you can take your own anyway. Also, do go to the loo beforehand, as its a long time when you need to spend a penny, and they aint going to hurry up just for you.

Buy your tickets in advance, on line…otherwise, be prepared to wait in a very, very long line, just to buy your tickets!

...and don’t get me started on the line to get on the actual Eye!

Again, if you’re keen on going, BUY YOUR TICKETS IN ADVANCE!

Trapped in a pod with screming children  — 10 months ago

Worth visiting!

No sooner had our ‘pod’ left the ground than a young British child began to howl. His parents decided the best way to deal with this was to first, ignore it. Then to sympathize with it. Then to pretend like none of the rest of us where even there. 30 minutes of non-stop crying of ‘dooooooowwwwwnnnnnn’, ‘no want to go up’ and ‘take me hoooooooooome’.

The second our pod landed, my very Scottish wife went straight over to the administration and asked for another ride and was given a full refund.

The Eye is very expensive. Forget the psudo-military security and ask (no, demand) to be in a pod with people who can control themselves and their children.

Too expensive, scared the shit out of me, didn’t show much you couldn’t see from the ground, and you had to see past the tourists who had to take 800 photos with a different pose of themselves in each one, but I still kinda liked it. Does that make me weird?

If you are afraid of heights…DON”T GO.
I went and screamed silently the whole time, wearing my sunglasses with my eyes shut! There’s a bench in the middle of the pod to sit on. I was glued to my seat & couldn’t wait to get out. Terry got alot of good pics though.

If you can, make sure you go when the sun is setting, so you see the bright lights of London.

Go at sunset!  — 1 year ago

Worth visiting!

I took a ride at sunset in the London Eye in March 2006. When I left the ground it was still somewhat bright outside. By the time I was halfway up, I could see the lights turning on all over the city—including the Parliament Building. It was definitely worth the money! I will go back the next time I’m in London!
