There are several reasons, I would like to see these islands. First of all I am interested in polynesian culture in general and dance in special (know a little). Secondly the marine life is supposed to be amazing and third of all there is still some vulcanism in the islands, I suppose.

Also: would like to see a pearl farm and I hope the trip would seem a little a bit like adventure I dreamed as a child.

Would like to go off the beaten tract though and see the less turist filled places further from Tahiti. It would be nice to sail around with somebody.

Papetee Tahiti and Bora Bora by spokydokies

I think most flights go into Papette Tahiti. Please be sure to visit the fish market there. Also, if you are purchasing black pearls (harvested from Moorea and surrounding islands) please be sure to look at the market in Papettee. Ask to go upstairs in the jewelry stores. The upper levels are lower grade pearls or those that are irregular in shape. There you can measure, weigh, and select the pearl of your choice. What a fantastic and unique experience. You may also save yourself a little money- as some deemed “irregular” have problems that can’t be seen with the naked eye.

Bora Bora is a small island about a 40 minute flight from Tahiti. The island itself is completely surrounded by a barrier reef making it first class for snorkeling or scuba. Reefs EVERYWHERE!!! The marine wild life is fantastic. The other two things that I highly recommend- try the pinapple juice and the chocolate croissants. Also, be sure to star gaze at night. The stars are fantastic in the southern hemisphere and especially on the smaller islands of French Polynesia- as there is no urban sprawl. The nights are fantastically black and perfect for star gazing. Enjoy!!

Choices we make by Mats Hagwall

It’s 20 years ago now but I keep on wanting to go back. I stayed most of the time in Tahiti, but also a few days in Bora Bora, a couple of weeks all toghether.

One specific memory I have from this trip is from Huahine harbour. I was going by ship from Bora Bora towards Papeete and remember wanting to jump off at Huahine just to see what would happen. I’d never been there and it looked so peaceful and unspectacular that it made me curious.

Anyway, I didn’t so I don’t know what would’ve happend – but I still remember the moment. When you think about it, you make these choices everyday in one way or another, even if the choice is just to stick with what you’ve got. For some reason this particular choice came to mind while writing this.

Perhaps you have such a moment of choice that comes to mind while reading this, where you chose not to and then wondered what would’ve happend if…?
