I saw the site driving west from Wilmington, NC one day some time ago. I lacked the funds to take the tour of the inside so I just gazed at it for awhile from ahwile. Very impressive and hard to fathom how one family could live in such an ostentatious place. The Biltmore is the embodiment of the Guilded Age!

It was around Christmas time and I was on a school trip. They had a replica of the Biltmore Estate made into a gingerbread house. This place is lovely. Great for a wedding or romantic getaway.

The building and grounds were lovely. They had their own “village”. Read that they had their own peasants. I wanna have peasants. And a winery. And a private deer park. Oh, oh and air conditioning, oh wait, I have that and they don’t….

Tips: go on a cool day, wear good shoes, do the behind the scenes tour and don’t, repeat don’t, force teenagers to go.

“I visited Biltmore a couple of weeks ago and was taking the bultler's tour. The guide told us of a tell all book about the Vanderbilts. She said it was a very thick book. I can't remember the name or author. Can you help?” about 1 year ago
