I didn’t see Prince Harry but it was still a trip worth taking. The changing of the guard was interesting but definitley overrated.

I didn’t have a chance to see the Changing of the Guard. I’m sad.

I was lucky enough to visit the Buckingham Palace when they were open for Summer. So got an audio-guided tour of all the States room. They were beautiful! With gold & coloured walls & ornaments. Too bad no Prince William in sight :(

The Royal Standard was flying...  — 1 year ago

which means HRH was in residence. I asked one of the guards outside the gate if it was true she was in the Palace, as I had just been at Windsor Castle that morning and the Royal Standard was flying above it. He said the Queen had returned from Windsor around 3:00pm & that “she must be following you!” What a card! Anywhoo, we came back to watch the changing of the guard the next morning.

I ended up being there for the dress rehearsal for the Queen’s B-Day Celebration last summer. Unfortunately I left London two days before her actual B-Day celebration, but I almost think the dress rehearsal was better. There was a smaller crowd and from where I was standing I got to see the ‘directors’ contemplating what needed to be changed or whatever. Also, by pure luck I ended up standing next to a native Londoner who is obsessed with the Queen and the palace and gave everyone within hearing distance a history lesson. Some people might have been annoyed by it but I’m a dork so I loved it.

I got dragged here by my mum and i really didn’t want to go but when we were in the queue this little girl ran up to me and hid behind my legs. It was so sweet. Then this lad came over and blushed slightly as he explained the little girl hiding behind me was his little sister.
We got talking and it turned out we had loads in common. We’re both super weird.
We walked around taking the piss outta everthing then we got to the ballroom thing and just randomly stood in the middle of the room and started singing YMCA. But the security guard told us off.

    It was soooooo funny

    Not worth it!

The palace is beautiful and breathtaking – it’s so large. The changing of the guard is kind-of interesting to see—however, the crowd is HUGE & you have to get there very early to be able to see anything, & it’s a little bit like watching paint dry. But it is interesting because it’s so historical.

I went there in 1997 when I was doing a tour in England and a friend who was here before took me around to all the places worth seeing; I wasn’t able to go inside, but to be outside and say you’ve been there, that is quite a treat. If you can get there for the Changing of the Guards, try and do so.
