Living in Seattle for 14 years, I often ran into people from Bainbridge Island. Gradually a few of my friends moved there as well. I have to say I was suspicious and sometimes my eyes rolled back when I heard the standard answer “We just love it over there”. My wife being one of the native of Bainbridge Island was hesitant to even consider living there. O, boy how wrong we were. We are one of those now who say: “we just love it over there”. Our kids approached the school age and the fact that Bainbridge has one of the best schools in the state was the big tipping point for making the move there.
Get on the ferry in downtown Seattle and in 35 minutes you will be in a different world. The ferry ride back is free, so I would suggest this trip to any visitor to Seattle. You will be able to see Seattle, maybe even Mount Rainier and of course Olympic Mountains from the water. A little 5 minutes walk from ferry terminal will get you into downtown of Winslow full of small shops. Rent a bicycle in Seattle and explore the beaches and parks of Bainbridge. The roads are quiet and empty. As I said, it’s a different world which is awaiting for you once you leave downtown Seattle.
