Fantastic place for a date!  — 1 year ago

I can’t say enough good stuff about this place. Sure it’s old but that’s what makes it so beautiful. Every time I go I am so mesmerized by the huge ornate theatre curtain and murals painted on the ceiling. I just love old art deco theaters and Oakland has quite a few. Dolby digital sound, comfy red seats and beautiful art. Come a bit early on weekend showings for the organ player in theater one.

I saw Apocolypse Now Redux here in 2001 when it was first released. I loved the vintage feel of the theatre; it really added to the film.

I love the grand lake! It makes you feel like you’ve been transported back in time somehow, especially when they have the organ player before the movie starts.
EVERY person in Oakland should go here.

The 'Ol Grand Lake...  — 3 years ago

    Worth visiting!

Is a old-time movie house split into four different theatres now. The popcorn is still great, with butter, and the organ player rises to every Friday and Saturday night occasion. Except for the seats, which are rather old, going to this theatre is a grand event.
