My favourite island on Cyclades.  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

The island is not too crowded by turists, at least not on low season. This means that the hotel owners are fighting over you, which isn’t always nice. Other than that, there’s plenty to explore. We went hiking to the inland several times, it is very lush there between the valleys. The tiny inland villages amaze too. And yes, I ate the best pita gyros in Naxos Town (vegetarian of course). Naxos Town is very beautiful and cosy.

A tip I have about this place  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

There are three camping sites placed on the biggest beach of the island (past the airport). I recommend to not take the first one, which is the biggest but way to noisy. the second one called La Plaka we found very nice, quit and easy…

Ana and Prokopios are great beaches, and be sure to stop in at Stavros’ bar on the way back.

Good surfing - but look out for the reef!  — 2 years ago

    Not worth it!

Just south of the city there is a natural lagune, where you can rent a surf board. Some years sinch I’v been there but then it was run by Germans with All new equipment.

At the outer boundry of the lagune there is a reef – do not fall of your board like I did and steped on a “porky pine” I stil have leftovers in my foot! (4-5 years ago)

I can proudly call me a specialist for this island.
It nice and cosy there which maybe is because there is no (or nearly no) airplane landing on this island. You have to get there by ship.
Its windy there so its not extremly hot and there are not that much moskitos. Hte food is great i I simply love it to stroll trough the city and its little streets with cobblestones and shops. there are also beautiful beaches (not those stone beaches) and its ideal to explore and find secret beaches, restaurants, and gardens.

Not so crowded but it seems that every year more and more people get there.
