How this place changed my life  — 1 year ago

    Not worth it!

I lived there for a few years. It’s beautiful to visit, but in one of the antebellum homes they insisted on referring to the enslaved people as “workers” ... wtf? And let’s not even begin to talk about the Natchez Democrat. Ok to pass through, not to live there.

I traveled here on an immersion trip to volunteer for a week at the Holy Family Catholic School. Such an amazing experience! We walked down to the Mississippi River and visited one of the many expansive mansions there…

Spring Tour of Homes  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

I haven’t been to the Fall – I am sure it is just as cool. The Spring tour was great. I went last Spring. Longwood was my favorite. Highly recommended if you like architecture and/or history

I had to drive from Monroe to Baton Rouge, and we passed through Natchez. There are some good places to eat in Natchez. My favorite was Fat Mama’s Tamales.

It’s all about hospitality and food in Natchez. The people are so incredibly friendly and the food is unsurpassed.

Very historic, lots of plantation homes, greenery and KUDZU.

From the river (which is how I got to Natchez, in 1972), you could see the old buildings of Natchez-Under-the-Hill rotting away. Something tells me that by now they are either gone, or all fixed up to take advantage of the tourist trade.

There were beautiful old houses there, too, and a feeling of a place that used to be very, very busy but for the time being, was sound asleep.
