I used to fly in here a lot when I was living in Wyoming. I would fly out here to visit Cabela’s. Also, if you are a pilot, consider buying an hour of flying time in Ed’s (the airport manager) Pitts S2C aerobatic biplane. Ed is a fantastic pilot and a great instructor. My wife bought me a lesson with him 2 years ago. I am sad that I live so far away now because I would be back in a heartbeat.

I was here for Oktober Fest a few years back. Yes I’ve been to a hoe down, but sadly saw no one playing the jug or the string and bucket. Lots of Bluegrass and Country though. Between all that sausage, polka and square dancing my friend and I decided we’d see the “sights” After a night spent in a tent in someone’s yard (my friend’s friend of the family) we decided to head to the local Safeway. Everyone was staring at us! It was so weird. After that we drove around some and I’ve never seen so many churches in my life. We also went to The Corn Palace and Cabelas. It’s good for a small town experience if you’ve never been to one.

On a drive across the country on I-80, I was surprised by how beautiful the plains of western Nebraska were. Stopped for gas in a little place called Sidney and people were very friendly and helpful.

I feel badly saying it “isn’t worth visiting” - let’s say, it isn’t a destination - but I’m very glad I passed through and chatted with folks.

I was totally unprepared for that gorgeous high plains scenery.
