    Worth visiting!

I actually drove out of my way to visit this airport. From a little city it was something to see! I have not flown into it, or been back since.

Biggest airport I’ve ever been in – crazy and busy and kinda scary! I took the train and got off at the wrong end – thought I was gonna be stuck forever!

They just built a firestation for the airport and bought two new “piercing trucks” they drive across the grass/runways at up to 200 mph to pierce the fuselage of the plane and spray in a foam to help prevent a plane on fire from exploding the fuel. Pretty neat.

Since I was flying “stand-by” on a buddy pass, I knew that my time spent within the airport could be substantial.

The first day I travelled through, my layover was just over 4 hours… Yawn!!! I spent the whole time reading a book.

On my way back home to California from Georgia, I was given the choice to either be driven an hour and a half from Warner Robins to Atlanta and have only a short wait before my flight… or to fly from Macon to Atlanta and face a 7 hour wait for a flight that I might not even be able to get on.

Out of respect for my sister who was nine months pregnant and would have had to drive me, I decided on the latter.

I did quite a bit or reading on that day as well, but I also walked around and checked out the shops and did some very interesting “people watching”.

It really wasn’t so bad… but I was obviously relieved when I was finally issued a boarding pass 7 hours after arriving there that morning.

If I hadn’t been absolutely broke, I would have ventured out into the city for a few hours, but as luck would have it, I was travelling with less than $20 to my name… so my whole Atlanta experience took place within the airport.

Oh well. at least I can say that, Yes, I have been to atlanta. :o)

Give yourself plenty of time- it is the world’s busiest airport. You will possibly miss your plane if you don’t.

Take the tram unless you like to walk…. really far. Man, you could walk like 5 miles to baggage claim. I never liked this airport. Why can’t every airport be like LAX? Easy.

I came here on my way to Orlando, when I was 14. It was EXTREMELY busy and we had 20 minutes to get through everything inlcuding this HUGE queue and we almost missed the plane!! I think we got on the plane with about 9 minutes to spare!! I thought Atlanta looked lovely from what I could see out the windows though!

    Not worth it!

Delta airlines has terrible/non-existent customer service. My flight was delayed leaving Charlotte and going to Atlanta due to “adverse weather in Atlanta”. When I finally got to Atlanta, I ran to the train, rode to the farthest away terminal, and ran to my gate just in time to see my plane leaving (which had been delayed as well, and I still missed it by 2 minutes). The desk clerk at the gate ROLLED HER EYES at me while explaining that she couldn’t open the door once it had been closed. She sent me to the Delta customer service desk where I waited in line for 40 minutes (missing the next flight home) before getting service. I was then told that they couldn’t do anything and I had to wait at the gate where the next flight home was in order to see if I could get on it. The desk clerk at the gate told me to go to customer service desk. I told him that they told me to go to the gate. After being told I couldn’t get on that plane, I was told that I MAY be on the next plane, which was 8 hours wait. I had to beg him to guarantee that I would be on that plane. When I asked him how they determined who got on, he said it is based on class. I feel that given that I paid for my ticket just as much as the other people paid for their tickets, I deserve to be on the plane as much as them. So, I asked him, “So in reality, I could be here forever?” He said, “Theoretically, yes.” The other gate desk clerk said that I didn’t qualify for a paid hotel room for the night, and when I finally convinced them that I did, they only wanted to pay for half of it and it was 12 miles away from the airport. So, I stayed in the airport overnight, and finally left the next morning. Delta should be shut down. They don’t care at all about their customers.

Regarding the airport itself, the bathrooms are very clean for public restrooms.

Update 11/28/07 – I forgot to mention the fact that the day I got home was my fiance’s birthday. My work didn’t tell me not to come in. So, I stayed up all day, all night, and the following all day working. When I got home, I passed out, and my fiance still is upset with me because I didn’t even spend time with him.
