A place where Pink Floyd recorded a DVD. That is enough to be worth visiting.

A must see by Annemaart

Absolutely fantastic, Pomepii gives a little look into the scale of roman cities and the disaster of the eruption of Mt Vesuvius. Not a lot of the frescoes are left, so I recommend going to the museum in Napoli the day before, so you can really get an idea of what it could have looked like.

I spend the whole day in pompeii, and I didn’t even see all I would have liked to see. Also, and this is very important: bring supplies. There are lots of spots on the site to refill your waterbottle, but there is no place to get food, only outside the gates of the site.

Don't Rush It! by Lori P

You need a full day, maybe even more, to fully explore Pompeii. It’s simply amazing…walking through the remains of an ancient city, frozen in time. Read up, learn about it before you go so you can fully understand exactly how important this city is and how much we’ve learned from it’s discovery.

I find Pompeii a bit too big and boring to entertain me in the long run. I think it would be more exciting riding a unicycle.:)

An absolutely amazing place. Eerie, fascinating and awesome. Keep a look out for grooves made in the road paving stones by carts (especially around corners) and plaster casts of people who perished in the eruption (seriously creepy but fascinating at the same time). Look closely at the models for details like sandal straps.

Go in the off season if possible. We went in January, and it was 20 degrees (Celsius), sunny and gorgeous. You won’t find the crowds there as you will in summer. And I have heard that the sun radiating off all that stone can make your trip there hellish.

We stayed in Naples and travelled there by train for the day. I would stay in Sorrento next time. Take a spare camera battery, because I had used up my first one in a matter of hours.
