This seems to be such a place I’d like to call home. I’ve been wanting to go here for years, and I may stop in Athens for supper on my way to Atlanta this week.

I had so much fun here over the Summer (‘07)! Everyone was super freakin’ nice and I felt really embraced, even by total strangers! I’ve rarely had that experience anywhere I’ve been. The local music scene is really vibrant, too. And good, good eating. I really can’t say enough good things about this town.

Unfortunately is probably the last time I’ll go to that place. Covering a business trip for a co-worker brought me to the home of the University of Georgia. As you can imagine there is tons to do in this college town. Something pretty entertaining/interesting about Athens is all over the city there are bulldog statues painted with different themes (the bulldog is the U of GA mascot.) The bulldog near all the frats is even painted in a toga! I also recommend walking downtown, you can get great Southern cooking (a treat for a Northerner like myself,) and anything from home you may be addicted to (i.e. Starbucks and Dunkin Donuts.)
The only downfall to Athens is it’s about an hour and a half drive from the Atlanta airport. I heard there was an airport in Athens but is pretty unreliable (flight cancellations.)

I broke my arm and got arrested in Athens, but it’s the bomb. I got some friends there and I love partying on the weekends there….need to slow down a lil though..

Ahh, a wonderful city for vegetarians and music (what with Happy Happy Birthday to Me AND Asaurus Records located there).

But seriously, it was the food that really won me over.

My first and last, so far, time going to Athens was April 1st, 2006 to attend Fluke, a mini-comic festival. I was only there for a day, but I instantly fell in love with this college town, from the sights, the food, to teh comic book store, this place has it all. I look forward to making the trip to Fluke a yearly event.
