Odaiba

I had seen a documentary about it on the Science Channel. It is an urban development experiment located in Tokyo Bay that is focused around the telecommunications centre located at its heart . There are no private autos used in the town, you can only use public transportation. Its a beautiful integration of nature with city. A symbiosis of work and play. Look it up on google to find out more info. I don’t want to write an essay here.

Went to Odaiba again now that mum’s in Japan… finally got a decent photo of the Fuji TV building (or as I like to say, ‘Mind Control Tower’). This time mum and I took a ride in one of the fully automatic hybrid cars. We checked out the beach (which I can say is much nicer when it’s not during a typhoon). Odaiba’s a great area if you have a lot of money.

This is kind of a date place. Lots of shops that she’ll love, some car stuff that he’ll find interesting, and good food that both should like.

It was funny when my b/f and I went there. It felt EXACTLY like peir 39 does in San Francisco. But 20 times bigger.

Still fun though.

It’s a giant mall, with a crappy “beach” etc. Nothing too exciting.

The ferris wheel is definitely a great ride… it was the largest in the world till 2001 (now Yokohama has the largest). There are always heaps of interesting things to check out at Odaiba… be sure to cheak the event guide before you head out.

I think there’s a beer museum at this place. You take the tour and at the end is the tasting room.

I had a blast here wandering around with friends. It’s away from the “downtown” Toyko scene, near the ocean, and has loads of things to walk in and out of.
