Harajuku Kids and the Battle of the Bands  — 2 months ago

    Worth visiting!

Spend a day walking around Harajuku and you’ll get more than you ever need for a gaggle of sights. Harajuku is well-known for its boutiques and bistros; famous for its Harajuku Kids and Cos-play-zoku aka The Costume Play Gang, a day spent here is a day in voyeur’s paradise.

A review of this place: Too many wannabe photographers!  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

I’m a foreigner myself, so I’m not anti-foreigner here. The first time I went to Harajuku station, it was pretty cool. I went to the bridge, saw the kids, took some pics, the usual. After going back a few more times, like for the cherry blossom festivals, it got really old with all the westerners trying to take pictures. You can’t even walk across the bridge, or take a photo, without being surrounded by a hundred guys who think they’re professional photographers because they bought a $1,000 camera and shop at a second-hand store. Maybe I’m just easily annoyed, but Harajuku station definitely seems like a place for those who try to avoid the “mainstream” to go and be and grow a little more pretentious. Don’t let that discourage you of course. It’s a great place to add to your 43 places!

Why I want to go to this place  — 1 year ago

Well first of all Japan will have every electronic gadget under the sun and secondly Gwen Stefani’s harajuku girls have always intrigued me.

I just learned that Hysteric Glamour sells art books. I may not have the extra money to spend on their clothes (even though I REALLY REALLY wish I did), but I could afford their lovely, lovely books.

Living in Harajuku  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

I’m currently living in the Harajuku area! This place is DEFINETLY worth visiting! I grew up in the US and I would always beg my mom to take us to Japan and I made my first trip there with my parents when I was 12. I fell in love with it and always knew I wanted to live there…so here I am!

I’ve been wanting to go to Japan as long as I can remember. I want to save lots of money and then go shopping for street fashion and things that I KNOW you can’t get here.

Why I want to go to this place  — 1 year ago

A couple of years ago, I spent two months living in a suburb of Kyoto. Japan isn’t a very big country, but I never made it to Tokyo at all.

My absolute favorite part of living in Japan was being around all the amazing fashion. The first time I heard the song “Harajuku Girls” I knew exactly what Gwen Stefani was talking about. I want to go to Harajuku and be surrounded by all of the amazing-ness even more than I was before.

One of my friends is studying in Tokyo right now, and every time she writes on an away message that she’s in Harajuku I think a little part of me dies of jealousy.
