I simply LOVE Harajuku! I made my husband take me back there again on the last day of our trip. I could have spent days going in and out of all the different shops. I left with 4 new additions to my bag collection/obsession. This was by far my most favorite part of our trip to Tokyo!

Harajuku Kids and the Battle of the Bands by Carrie Marshall

Spend a day walking around Harajuku and you’ll get more than you ever need for a gaggle of sights. Harajuku is well-known for its boutiques and bistros; famous for its Harajuku Kids and Cos-play-zoku aka The Costume Play Gang, a day spent here is a day in voyeur’s paradise.

Too many wannabe photographers! by Jim Danger

I’m a foreigner myself, so I’m not anti-foreigner here. The first time I went to Harajuku station, it was pretty cool. I went to the bridge, saw the kids, took some pics, the usual. After going back a few more times, like for the cherry blossom festivals, it got really old with all the westerners trying to take pictures. You can’t even walk across the bridge, or take a photo, without being surrounded by a hundred guys who think they’re professional photographers because they bought a $1,000 camera and shop at a second-hand store. Maybe I’m just easily annoyed, but Harajuku station definitely seems like a place for those who try to avoid the “mainstream” to go and be and grow a little more pretentious. Don’t let that discourage you of course. It’s a great place to add to your 43 places!
