A tip I have about this place  — 3 months ago

    Worth visiting!

If you can, stay here overnight. During the day the streets are just packed but towards the end of the afternoon it empties out and then it’s fantastic to stroll around in the relatively-crowd free walled city.

The first time I went to this place  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

The first time I saw the Citadel was from afar, and it looked like something out of a fairy tale. The huge fortress sits alone, surrounded by a high stone wall, towers, and looks like a painting. Once inside, you can walk around, shop for trinkets and eat at the many restaurants inside.

First off, getting there. The best way to get to Carcassone from the United States is to fly to Dublin and take a Ryan Air flight direct to Carcassonne.

I was blessed that a friend of mine worked nights @ Le Bar de Vin inside the walled city. My first experience in the city happened at 330 in the morning. I was one of maybe 10 people I saw walking the streets that early morning. It made for a unique experience no crowds, no loud noise. Completely different then the experience on Bastille day. Which is the Day to Visit. The fireworks display is unlike anything you will ever witness. Absolutely Spectacular. The more amazing part is how a town of 40,000 people holds 750,000 people.

If you’d like to experience a back-in-time trip, Carcassonne is the place to go! During summertime, it seems that everyone has kept their ancestors clothes and walk around in medieval attire!

A review of this place: Amazing  — 2 years ago

    Worth visiting!

This walled in city is truly on e of the more amazing places that I have been in my life.

It’s a medieval city with artisans in the street selling wares, but modern day people actually live there!

it’s out of this world, I would highly recommend visiting.

Knights and castles… Your medieval dream come true. Charming old city. Spent a night there on our way down from Paris to Jaén (in Spain) a few years ago.

    6 hours away...  — 2 years ago

Now I’m living in Asturias, Carcasonne may be only about a 6 hour drive away. So maybe we can drive over for a weekend or a few days, at Easter or in the Summer.

It looks enchantingly beautiful, I hope the reality lives up to the pictures.

Touristy but well worth it!  — 2 years ago

I remember lots of postcard and souvenir shops in the walled city and delicious cassoulet! Actually we were driving from Toulouse to Barcelona and the cassoulet was a must-do!

I visited Carcassonne just the once—in the early 90s. I arrived at the railway station just before dawn and the city’s battlements were an enticing rose colour as I walked up to them.
Around first light is a great time to discover a new place.
    Try it!

It’s my interest for the medieval history which has to attract to go in this city. I like the accent from this part of France. I met friendly people who helped me to take advantage well my stay in the city.
