I graduated from Texas State University and lived in San Marcos for 6 years. It’s the best school in Texas!

I went to college here during my freshman year. I loved going down to the river after class and laying out and swimming. At night I would walk down to All-Niter-Diner for a really good bowl of queso. Thai Thai was my favorite place to get Thai food in town and Gil’s had great hamburgers. Tuesday nights I’d drink with friends then walk down to the little movie theater and see terrible films for .50 and have a blast. It seemed like San Marcos was always sunny and the skies were always blue. The Texas State honors program changed my life, all of my classes and professors were great. I miss this place.

But I’m gettin’ sick of living here! What can I say? I love it here, but it’s my hometown… And who wants to live in their hometown?

With the possible exception of a poor zip code 78666, San Marcos is a great town. Beautiful Hill Country area with spring fed lake and river. Smack in between Austin and San Antonio but with a small college town atmosphere and the central Texas high tech infrastructure. Oh’ did I mention a HUGE outlet mall for you consumerista’s out there?

I’m living here for college right now and I really enjoy it a lot. San Marcos (near campus anyway) reminds me a lot of a little Austin, but more relaxed. It’s a very quietish place with a crunchy-granola feel to it. I like it.

i used to live here. i just love the river. aquarena springs is a great place to go diving, the water is clear and has lots of fish in it. it is at the head of the san marcos river and used to be an ameusement park. but you do have to have a scientific diver certification to dive there because of the protected species that live in the springs.
we still go shopping and out to eat here. there is an outlet mall, and several other stores. my favorite restraunt is Ta Mollys Y Mas. there are so many other great eating places, including two sushi bars.
