Last Stop Before Philmont

The main purpose of our trip was to pick up our daughter from Philmont Boy Scout Ranch. Taos was our last stop on the way.

We arrived in Taos in the late afternoon. We checked in to the hotel. Our youngest wanted to swim in the pool for a little while so we relaxed while she swam.

We called our daughter at Philmont to ask if she had any recommendations for us in Taos. She came to Taos several times duriing her three years at Philmont. She suggested one of her favorite places to eat.

While we were eating I had commented to Mrs. viii that I wanted to take some pictures of the town before it got too dark. Since the rest of the family wanted dessert and weren’t terribly interessted in taking pictures, she suggested that I just go ahead and take pictures on my own and we’d meet up later.

The town was interesting. There is one major street running north to south. It’s only one lane in each direction, so it’s pretty congested much of the time. The architecture that I saw was predominantly Southwest adobe style. Most of the town seemed to be geared around high-end tourists, with a lot of very expensive art galleries lining the streets. The town remindedn me a lot of Jackson, Wyoming, only with a Southwest flair.

I wandered around, got a lot of pictures in the twilight, and a few after dark.

Yes, its gorgeous...

...but also a little pretensious. Definitely tourist rich, but it is most definitely a gem scenery wise. I’d tell you to visit in the off season, but there really doesn’t seem to be one. I used to head through there once a week on business and let me tell ya…the place I was passing through Taos to get to is way cooler and much more beautiful in my opinion…ANGELFIRE!!!

Mmm.. Green Chilli Cheese Fries

I love love love green chilli Cheese fries, and guess what, New Mexico has them. Delicious. Well Taos was a fun trip. Although I spent most of the time in the B&B. (Casa de los chimineas www.visittaos.com). We had the Willow Room, which was pretty fun. I love the idea of a room with a fireplace. Taos Ski Valley however is more beautiful, but we went up thre to ski for the day. Overall it was a great trip!
