A waterfall that’s 1 mile wide – wow! And what a wonderful name in the local language: “The Smoke That Thunders”

Make sure to do the whitewater rafting it’s an amazing experience. Enjoy the baboons and warthogs walking in the streets. Only regret is not bungee jumping from the Zambia bridge. They wanted $65 US and wouldn’t negotiate so I didn’t do it. Wish I would have.

Waterfalls are my absolute favorite, and this one is the most gorgeous I’ve seen (in pictures, anyway). Going to Victoria Falls would be the end all be all for me.

Go to the Zimbabwe side. Even though the view is much better, the country is having horrible problems, and the dictator there does not deserve your dollars (and it all gets to him somehow.)

The first time I went to this place  — 10 months ago

    Worth visiting!

Came here in July 2007. Walked along the path across from the falls, it was a little misty but we didn’t get too wet. The falls were incredible, we flew in a small plane above the falls which is worth it, it gives a different perspective of them.

It’s all about the lunar rainbow. Apparently, at full moon, the moon is bright enough to create a rainbow in the spray from the falls. I can’t resist that.

The air around the falls is so misty we literally got soaked! The falls are awe inspiring: huge & noisy. Unlike Niagara Falls, which is incredibly touristy, the paths along the Zimbabwean side of the falls don’t even have railings!

The poverty in Zimbabwe is very sad. The life expectancy is 34 for women and 37 for men. We were overwhelmed by people in the market swarming us asking for clothing, pens, etc and pushing us to buy their handicrafts. We were happy to help once they gave us a little space to breathe.

there is great accomodation at this out of town resort. The hotels there are world class but very affordable. Two of the hotels that I have stayed are:-
    The Kingdom Hotel

This splendid hotel is located only ten minutes from the Victoria Falls, making it the closest hotel to the falls. The Kingdom Hotel offers comfortable, resort-style accommodation with 294 rooms in two and three storey units. Each room has en suite bathroom, air conditioning, overhead fan, tea/coffee making facilities, satellite TV, radio and telephone.

There are five different eating venues as well as an action bar with televised sports, a pool area with two swimming pools, pool terrace and bar area. A special children’s area with supervised creche will keep children occupied while parents explore the exciting on site casino. Your accommodation here is on a bed and breakfast basis.

    Elephant Valley Lodge

Elephant Valley Lodge is situated in the Lesoma Valley within the Kasane Forest Reserve just half an hours drive from Chobe National Park. The lodge lies beneath a forest of majestic False Thorns and boasts a fantastic view over a large waterhole virtually a stone throw away.

The main bar and dining complex affords fantastic views over the waterhole and surrounding areas. A whole array of game and birds frequent this waterhole throughout the year. You get the chance to see more wildlife when you join game viewing activities like boat cruises along along the beautiful Chobe River, game drives, bush walks or night drives in the Lesoma Valley.
