Been here just once to see a friend. Not much different from other towns in NZ, houses, small streets etc. The city was quite hilly except the main street George St. And there was one other street (I don’t recall the name, sorry) which was claimed to be the steepest street in the world, unfortunately I didn’t get there.

…I was almost stepping into the unknown, going the farthest I had ever gone anywhere from where I lived, to meet people for the first time properly, and to see what life would be like in Dunedin for a week in September. And it was worth every moment. I can’t wait to get back there again in January.

My favorite city in New Zealand by kalavinka

I did a work abroad experience in New Zealand in 2004/2005 simply because Americans never do this. Overall, I’m glad that I did it but I never felt a connection anywhere. Not with the land, not with the people. But, Dunedin was different. It was special. It was the place I should’ve spent more time in. If it wasn’t so damn cold, I probably would’ve tried to live there too and not just Auckland and Wellington. I liken Dunedin to San Francisco. There’s just something about it inexplicable. Plus, there were plenty of food options for vegans/vegetarians.
