We had just about the best meal ever in Manzanita. We were living on the Coast at the time and wanted to try something new. I had heard that the Blue Sky Cafe was a good bet… and we were astonished how expensive the menu appeared to be. Then we actually sat down to our meal. It was amazing. The flavors were so well balanced, and surprising. Since then, it seems that the Blue Sky is not in operation anymore, but the former owner moved to create her own bakery across the street. I’ve heard it’s every bit as good!

For the last eight years I’ve visited Manzanita in July/August. If you’re ever on the Oregon coast definately take a little time to check it out. Smaller but more relaxed than Cannon Beach and Seaside.

Each August, when our Seattle neighborhood is being over-run with hydroplane fans and the Blue Angel stunt planes start divebombing our house, we get the hell out of dodge and go to the Oregon coast. Manzanita has become our favorite spot with just that right balance of big sandy beach, good bakery and a little commercial strip with a good book store.
