A review of this place: I LOVE CAMBRIDGE!  — 1 year ago

This is one of the coolest towns around. Very artsy, street musicians everywhere, a totally eclectic mix of people. Just walk around and absorb the atmosphere!

    Worth visiting!

Cambridge may be a strange desirable location but I love this city. It has such great energy… must be all those young, creative, great minds in such a small place. At only 7 sq. miles, Cambridge has a population of over 100,000 people! The city is clean and easy to navigate. If you find a legal parking space, leave your car there and walk, take the train or cab it around the city.

Jogging along the Charles river was not a particularly pleasant experience as I had something resembling a highway on my right hand side. Sometimes the trail would go through dense shrubbery or a secluded resting space and I couldn’t free my mind from thinking I was exposed and at risk.. never had that thought before or after.

Charles river was but a minor part of my pleasant visit to Cambridge however. The KSG, the Widener Library, the historical cemetery and the Coop bookshop were among the interesting points of my explorations there.

Was early spring, the weather just changed and was unusually warm. Runners were everywhere and the whole place was full of energy and felt alive. People running, jogging, and walking alone, in pairs and in groups! The energy flowed freely and made everone look and feel more alive. It is a great place to work up an appetite and then find a nice place to get your fill.

I was with 2 friends and we went to an Irish Pub, really weird place, nice though. There were Barbie Dolls hanging on the ceiling and a loud and psychedelic music playing…but then, we went to a Chinese restaurant that has 2 dance floors and there was a lot of people there! It was a cool night!

City of Squares  — 1 year ago

    Worth visiting!

Cambridge has also been called the “City of Squares” by some, as most of its commercial districts are major street intersections known as squares. Because most streets were laid out centuries ago, few of these squares resemble a geometric square in any way—Harvard Square is in fact formed by two converging curved streets. Each of the squares acts as something of a neighborhood center. These include: Kendall Square, Central Square, Harvard Square, Porter Square, Inman Square and Lechmere Square.

Cambridge was established as the town of “Newtowne” in 1630. Newtowne was one of a number of towns (including Boston, Dorchester, Watertown, and Weymouth) founded by the 700 original Puritan colonists of the Massachusetts Bay Colony under governor John Winthrop. The original village site was the heart of today’s Harvard Square, while the town included a much larger area than the present city, with various outlying parts becoming independent towns over the years: Newton (originally Newtown) in 1690, Lexington (Cambridge Farms) in 1712, and Arlington (West Cambridge) and Brighton (Little Cambridge), which was annexed by Boston in 1807.

    Worth visiting!

cambridge is beautiful yet just as road-confusing as boston. its a great college town, totally built for people in their 20’s. lots of shopping. too much of a variety of food (not saying too much variety of food is a bad thing)! i totally reccommend that if anyone were to come here with the intensions of enjoying cambridge, get out of your car and use your legs. it will give you the most opportunity to enjoy the old architecture, the smell of every food place you walk past and free yourself from the pain of driving through any part of a populated massachusetts. oh, and another tip… if you ARE driving… do not cry or yell when the road you are on turns into another road without warning…. it happens a lot here and any form of excess drama will just make it worse. breathe and ask for directions from the locals. a map will only show you so much… and you can’t have a conversation with one either.
